Next Friday February 7th , Over The Edge Literary Events are hosting a wonderful evening to celebrate Galway poets who published books in 2019 as well as writers who contributed to the recent outstanding Culture Matters Anthology; “Children of a Nation” which I am honoured to be part of!
I hope to read my poem called Inferno…
Here is a little snippet!
Inferno
“Without hope we live on in desire” Dante, Inferno.
Bless me father for I have sinned.
And long may it stay that way,
being blessed with a love of flesh,
his and mine intertwined,
loving layers of cash, rich cheese and ruby wine…..
The Inferno tells the journey of Dante through Hell guided by the ancient roman poet Virgil, in the poem, Hell is depicted as nine concentric circles of torment located within the Earth; it is the “realm … of those who have rejected spiritual values by yielding to bestial appetites or violence, or by perverting their human intellect to fraud or malice against their fellowmen”. I hope you will enjoy my own quirky version inspired by this 14th century epic!
